At Soar Valley Press, we love making it easy for businesses, clubs, schools and creators to get their brand out into the world - whether that’s through a slick embroidered hoodie or a custom t-shirt you press on the kitchen table.

If you’ve never come across DTF (Direct to Film) transfers before, they’re a fantastic way to get vibrant, full-colour designs onto garments without the need for large-scale screen printing or expensive setup costs. They’re durable, flexible, and - here’s the best bit - you can even apply them yourself at home with nothing more than a household iron.

Yes, really.

So whether you’re a small business owner, a side hustler making your own merch, or someone who just wants a one-off personalised tee - here’s how it works.

What Is a DTF Transfer?

DTF stands for Direct to Film. It’s a relatively new printing technique that’s revolutionised custom garment decoration.

We print your design in-house onto a special film using our specialist DTF printer and inks.

Then, you can either:

  • Apply it yourself using a domestic iron or heat press, or

  • Let us do it for you, applied directly to premium workwear like t-shirts, polos, hoodies and more.

Once applied, the finish is soft to the touch, vibrant in colour, and – most importantly – built to last.

How to Apply Your DTF Transfer at Home

No fancy kit needed – just a standard household iron (steam turned off), baking paper, and a bit of elbow grease.

You’ll need:

  • Your DTF transfer (we’ll send it to you ready to apply)

  • A clean garment (cotton or poly-cotton works best)

  • A household iron

  • Baking paper or a Teflon sheet

  • A firm surface – kitchen table is better than an ironing board

Step-by-step:

1️⃣ Preheat your iron to a high, dry setting (Cotton). No steam.

2️⃣ Position the transfer on your garment, design facing up.

3️⃣ Cover with baking paper or a Teflon sheet.

4️⃣ Press firmly in sections, 10–15 seconds at a time, until the whole design has been covered (around 30–40 seconds in total).

5️⃣ Let it cool completely, then peel the film.

6️⃣ Optional final press to seal the design – another 10–15 seconds.

🎯 That’s it – a professional finish from your own kitchen!
